私は、この場合、前の文全体が主語になるというようなイメージで捉えています。
”camerasがmoonsを見つけたという状況が、satellitesの数を2倍にした”という感じでしょうか。
先日書いた例文は、blotting → blotting out の間違えでした。
(ex)Mt.Fuji erupted, blotting out the sun for three days.
