Aのwhenが何にかかるのか曖昧な気がします。「若いころ車いじりすること」か「XX is same as XXなのは若いころ」なのかというニュアンスです。説明が下手ですいません。
まあ、これをいいだすと、as a teen-agerも同様かもしれませんが・・・

たしかに簡潔さが一番のポイントのようですね。
ただし、in worthは何の観点でsameかを示していると考えると、Cも文法的にXではないとおもうのですが、この理解でいいでしょうか？
